🤝 US AND CHINA AGREE TO A $30 BILLION TARIFF CUT
Chinese President Xi Jinping’s three-day visit to the US ended with some concrete outcomes. Both sides agreed to a reciprocal tariff reduction worth $30 billion. They also said Iran must never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon, and that no country or institution should be allowed to charge tolls on international waterways.
AI takes a seat at the table: the two leaders will launch a China-US AI dialogue to discuss the technology’s risks and benefits. The next round is set for November.
President Donald Trump also urged Xi to raise refined petroleum output to steady global supplies. China’s Foreign Ministry said work continues on the US’s rare earth and critical mineral concerns, with the aim of restoring shipments to appropriate levels.
🎂 GOOGLE TURNS 28 AND GOES RETRO
The world’s most used search engine is celebrating with a nostalgic Doodle that brings back its 1998-era logo.
There is also a birthday trivia quiz on the Google Doodles page. From search to Gmail, YouTube, Maps, Android and Pixel, it has come a long way.
Founded by Stanford PhD students Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google was incorporated on September 4, 1998, but it celebrates its birthday on September 27.
🏅 INDIA AT THE ASIAN GAMES: SILVERS KEEP COMING
Gold stayed out of reach on Day 9 in Nagoya, but India’s track and field team had its best day yet with three silver and three bronze medals. India’s tally now stands at 45 (4 gold, 20 silver, 21 bronze).
- Vithya Ramraj clocked 54.75s in the 400m hurdles for bronze. She broke PT Usha’s 1984 national record of 55.42s, which stood for over four decades.
- Yashvir Singh (silver) and Rohit Yadav (bronze) made it a javelin double podium, and reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem finished fourth.
- Murali Sreeshankar took a second straight Asiad silver in long jump with 8.07m.
- Gulveer Singh won 1500m silver with a personal best of 3:36.72.
- Esha Singh, 21, won silver in the 25m pistol after five shoot-offs, missing gold by one shot.
- Pincky Balhara took Kurash bronze in the -78kg category, becoming India’s most successful Kurash player at the Games.
