ABOUT THE PRODUCTION: VASTRA – A DANCE NARRATIVE
“Clothing, often seen as a mere necessity, is revealed as a profound marker of dignity and identity in this unique production. “Vastra” brings to life the unsung stories of Nangeli, the Mulakkaram tax, and the Channar revolt—historic struggles by the Nadar women of Travancore to assert their rights and reclaim their dignity. This 40-45 minute Carnatic classical ballet, featuring 10 dancers and 4 musicians from the Prabha Kalabhoomi ensemble, interweaves tradition and innovation,” says the organizers of the program.
Utilizing Bharatnatyam as its core dance form, enhanced by original movements and elaborate stagecraft, “Vastra” promises an immersive experience that resonates with both traditional art connoisseurs and contemporary audiences.
