SWAYAMDHWANI SEASON 3: A CELEBRATION OF SELF-RHYTHM IN CLASSICAL DANCE

STEP INTO THE ENCHANTING WORLD OF CLASSICAL DANCE AT SWAYAMDHWANI SEASON 3 AT KOLKATA.

ON MARCH 9, 2025, THE SATYAJIT RAY AUDITORIUM AT ICCR, KOLKATA, WILL COME ALIVE WITH THE RHYTHM AND GRACE OF THIS PREMIER FESTIVAL. ORGANIZED BY PRAGYADYUTI – AN ODISSI NRITYABASA AND CURATED BY SMT. SHAYOMITA DASGUPTA, SWAYAMDHWANI CELEBRATES THE CONCEPT OF “SELF-RHYTHM,” WHERE MOVEMENT, BEATS AND EXPRESSIONS FLOW NATURALLY FROM THE DANCER’S SOUL.

This year’s edition promises a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, showcasing renowned classical dancers and emerging artists.

SEGMENT 1: TATTVA (ESSENCE)

The opening segment, “Tattva,” by Pragyadyuti dancers and directed by Smt. Shayomita Dasgupta, explores Odissi dance’s foundational elements. Featuring invocatory pieces, technical precision and storytelling, “Tattva” reflects the discipline and structure shaping an artist’s journey. It showcases the dedication and commitment needed to master this art form.

SEGMENT 2: EXPANDING THE HORIZONS

The second segment, “Expanding the Horizons,” highlights the evolution of self-rhythm across various classical dance styles. Featured performances include:

• Marga Natya by Akash Malik: A fresh and unique perspective on classical storytelling.
• Odissi by Rajashri Praharaj: A captivating solo performance by the esteemed dancer from Bhubaneswar.
• Bharatanatyam by Samrat Dutta: A dynamic interpretation of Bharatanatyam, seamlessly blending rhythm and narrative.

Curated by Smt. Shayomita Dasgupta, Swayamdhwani, Season 3 immerses the audience in a journey from structured movement to independent artistic expression. The festival celebrates the dancer’s evolution, where rhythm emerges organically from within, reflecting discipline and individuality. This transition showcases the dancers’ mastery and dedication, making each performance unique and captivating.
