Streams of Bhakti: A Soulful Celebration on World Music Day
On World Music Day – 21 June 2026, the historic Netaji Bhawan, Kolkata, will echo with the divine strains of Streams of Bhakti—a heartfelt new music release celebrating the folk songs of Bengal.
Young and gifted musician Arghya Chakraborty joins hands with renowned performers Rina Das Baul, Atahar Fakir, Abul Kalam Azad, Pritam Guha, and Indrajit Das, weaving together spiritual melodies that awaken the soul and celebrate the timeless bond between devotee and divine.
Arghya Chakraborty stands as a musician, researcher and educator whose practice flows across Hindustani classical, traditional, folk, independent, and world music. Guided first by his mother, renowned Vidushi Padmaja Chakraborty, he began his journey early, later earning accolades at Delhi University, where he was admitted on musical merit and worked with Music Basti, teaching at-risk communities.
His artistry reached wider audiences through Doordarshan India in 2014 with performances of Rabindra Sangeet, and expanded globally with the Ethno Mobility scholarship (2022), leading to concerts, residencies, and workshops in Germany, Belgium, Finland, and Estonia. Since 2023, Arghya has been training under renowned Shri Debapriya Adhikary, delving into the intricacies of the Ashthang Gayaki Padhati, rooted in the Senia-Maihar, Rampur Sahaswan, Agra, and Benaras gharanas.
From street_art_celle in Germany to workshops at folkbergberlin, and pure Hindustani classical recitals under the BENU Heritage Classical program, Arghya’s voice continues to bridge heritage and innovation—an evolving testament to devotion, discipline, and the boundless reach of music.
