Held at Gyan Manch, Kolkata, the celebration brings together eminent exponents and scholars—Smt. Tapati Chowdhury, Guru Smt. Aloka Kanungo, Guru Shri Ashimbandhu Bhattacharya, and Guru Smt. Sharmila Biswas—whose reflections illuminate the profound influence of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra on India’s classical dance heritage.

On Saturday, 6 June 2026 at 11:00 AM, the inaugural day of Samāhāra – A Centenary Offering will unfold as a profound tribute to Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, celebrating his enduring legacy as one of the foremost architects of modern Odissi dance. The day will weave together a documentary screening, a seminar, and an interactive discussion, immersing audiences in the timeless artistry and vision of Guruji.
The documentary will illuminate the life and creative journey of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, followed by a panel moderated by Guru Dr. Ratikant Mohapatra (Odissi exponent, Dean of FACIS, Sri Sri University, and SNA Awardee). This dialogue will explore Guruji’s artistic vision, pedagogy, choreography, and the sacred Guru–Shishya Parampara, while reflecting on his continuing relevance in contemporary performing arts.
The guest panel will feature distinguished voices: Padma Shri Madhavi Mudgal, Smt. Alokananda Roy, Smt. Chetna Jalan, Guru Daksha Mashruwala, and Mahamahopadhyay Shri Piyal Bhattacharya. Their insights will be enriched by the presence of eminent guests—Sharmila Biswas, Aloka Kanungo, Tapati Chowdhury, and Ashimbandhu Bhattacharya—whose reflections will add depth and resonance to the occasion.

On Sunday, 7 June 2026 at 6:00 PM, the second evening of Samāhāra – A Centenary Offering will blossom into a vibrant celebration of dance, music, and devotion, honoring the eternal legacy of Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. This curated Odissi repertoire will be inspired by Guruji’s artistic vision, weaving together the threads of tradition and continuity through the sacred bond of the Guru–Shishya Parampara.
The evening will feature performances by the dedicated students of Sangati – A Home for Odissi, alongside a luminous solo presentation by Shayomita Dasgupta, acclaimed Odissi dancer, teacher, and founder-director of Sangati. Rooted deeply in the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra tradition, her curation reflects a commitment to preserving and transmitting the values of classical Indian dance to future generations. Adding a special dimension, Guru Ratikant Mohapatra will assume the artistic role of Sutradhar, guiding the narrative flow and embodying the spirit of continuity between past and present.
