The Resonance of Ragas: A Two-Day Classical-Fusion Music Workshop And Concert At IIIT Hyderabad

On October 4th and 5th, immerse yourself in a unique workshop that celebrates the inclusive spirit of Indian classical music.

Hosted at International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-H), Hyderabad,  this two-day workshop delineates how Indian ragas resonate.

SHAM-E-ANANDI: A SOULFUL EVENING OF CLASSICAL BRILLIANCE AT IIIT HYDERABAD

Student Life Committee (SLC), along with Cultural Council, IIIT-H presents Darbari Anuranan, Adhyay: Sham-e-Anandi – an enchanting, blissful evening of Indian classical music.

On October 6th at 7:00 PM, the Tarangini Amphitheatre, IIIT Hyderabad will come alive with the soulful strains of internationally acclaimed sitarist and composer Pandit Partha Pratim Roy on strings and the rhythmic mastery of renowned Pandit Amitananda Ray on percussion. 

Pandit Partha Pratim Roy’s journey with the sitar is a story of deep devotion and timeless artistry. For over forty years, he has woven melodies that echo across the world, carrying the soul of Indian classical music. Guided by the legendary Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and Pandit Debiprasad Chatterjee, he has performed on revered stages like the Dover Lane Music Conference and Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, and many more, sharing India’s rich musical heritage with pride.

By his side stands Pandit Amitananda Ray, a gifted tabla maestro from the Benaras Gharana, trained under eminent gurus,  Pandit Nanku Maharaj  and Pandit Kumar Bose of the Benaras Gharana. 

This rare duet promises a spellbinding experience, blending tradition with emotion in every note. 

Bridging Traditions: A Workshop on Musical Harmony Across Cultures

Organized by the Student Life Committee (SLC) with support from the Music Club, Cultural Council and powered by Felicity Infinium, this two-day workshop at International institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad on October 4th and 5th offers a rare chance to explore the deep connections between Indian classical ragas and Western legends like Mozart and Beethoven. 

With themes like  “The correspondence of Indian Classical Music and the Western Classics” and “Flavors and Glimpses of Indian Classics in Indian Folk Music, Theatre and Film Industries”, this workshop invites music lovers to explore the shared soul of diverse traditions. 

Alimpan Modak, the Student Co-ordinator of the Student Life Committee shares — “participants will journey through the echoes of Indian ragas in folk and Sufi melodies and more, and discover their harmony with Western classical forms. The experience will culminate in a soul-stirring concert by Pandit Partha Pratim Roy of the Maihar Gharana and Pandit Amitananda Ray of the Benaras Gharana—two masters weaving rhythm and melody into a timeless celebration.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn from two masters and celebrate the unity of music across cultures,” he added.

“It will include traditional knowledge of classical music along with technical insights into fusion music and jamming,” Alimpan Modak shares that this upcoming workshop at the prestigious IIIT Hyderabad is designed to blend the wisdom of tradition with the energy of innovation. 

From the depth of ragas to the excitement of collaborative improvisation, the workshop promises a rich learning experience for music lovers, students and curious minds alike.
