Prime Minister Narendra Modi Holds Key BRICS Bilaterals in New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a flurry of high-level diplomacy on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi, headlined by a significant meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The two leaders agreed that India and China must view their relationship through a long-term, strategic lens, stressing that differences should never be allowed to harden into disputes.

Building on the momentum since their Tianjin meeting last August, PM Modi reiterated that ties must rest on “three mutuals” — mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest — with peace along the border remaining central to progress. 

Both sides pledged a fair and mutually acceptable path to resolving the boundary question, while also vowing to deepen cultural exchange, trade ties and address long-standing issues like the trade imbalance.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with the leaders of Ethiopia, Malaysia and Vietnam, along with Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reaffirming the strong India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

A packed day of diplomacy, signaling India’s growing role at the heart of the Global South.
