RATNADEEP ADIVREKAR’S JOURNEY THROUGH TIME AND DEVOTION
The much-anticipated preview of “I Remember You from Tomorrow”, showcasing the captivating new works of acclaimed artist Ratnadeep Adivrekar, was recently unveiled at the esteemed Dhoomimal Art Centre in New Delhi.
Curated by Abhijeet Gondkar, this exhibition marks Ratnadeep’s first solo presentation in the capital, spanning two floors and featuring large-scale paintings alongside several works on paper.
“The title work, I Remember You from Tomorrow, serves as a conceptual inquiry into devotion—whether towards artistic endeavors or the soul’s introspective journey. My studio, filled with imagery of hand and mind in dialogue, finds its reflection within the exhibition space. Here, the painter acts as a summoner, invoking visions from beyond into the material realm,” artist Ratnadeep Adivrekar elaborated on his creative process.
Born in Mumbai and currently based between Mumbai and Dubai, Ratnadeep is celebrated for his vivid and expressive paintings that explore the intersections of philosophy, self, the world and time. His latest body of work delves into the theme of devotion, examining the profound connections between art, work, and the ever-changing world.
ARTISTIC EXPLORATION THROUGH MAGICAL REALISM
In “I Remember You from Tomorrow”, artist Ratnadeep Adivrekar uses a unique artistic lens to contemplate moments of thought, history, and mythology within an abstract realm. “His works embody magical realism, blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination, memories and events. Elements of surrealism emerge through his subjects, often depicted reading or in contemplation, amplified by bold color palettes and exaggerated forms,” says Abhijeet Gondkar, curator of the show.
“The title piece, I Remember You from Tomorrow, encapsulates these ideas, offering a framework to explore devotion—both in artistic practice and introspective self. Ratnadeep’s studio becomes a living dialogue of hand and mind, where paintings within the piece find their presence echoed in the gallery itself. He positions the artist as a conjurer, channeling objects from the immaterial into tangible existence. Drawing inspiration from Fluxus performances and mythological folklore, his work incorporates dynamic gestures, fusing modernism with contemporary mythmaking to engage with today’s complexities,” he added.
A VISIONARY’S CREATIVE PROCESS
“In creating his latest body of work, Ratnadeep explores themes varying between moments of thought, history, and myth contemplation in an abstract space. He uses the space between reality and imagination as magical realism, blurring the memories of actual events. Surreal aspects are introduced with subjects reading or in contemplation, whether through color extremities or exaggerated elements,” Mohit Jain from Dhoomimal Art Centre remarked.
A NIGHT OF THOUGHT-PROVOKING THEMES
The preview saw notable art enthusiasts, including Neerja Peters, Sheela Chamaria, Anandmoy Banerjee, and Kalicharan Gupta, who engaged deeply with the thought-provoking themes presented in Ratnadeep’s works. The exhibition promises an immersive experience for art connoisseurs and will remain open for public viewing, offering a rare glimpse into Ratnadeep Adivrekar’s artistic universe.
Renowned artist Ratnadeep Adivrekar’s artistic journey has been marked by evolution and growth. His formal training at Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai further refined his skills and knowledge. As a recipient of prestigious awards such as the ‘Governor’s Prize,’ ‘The Harmony Award’ for Best Emerging Artist, and the ‘Bendre-Hussain Scholarship,’ Ratnadeep’s artworks now grace numerous esteemed private and public collections, both nationally and internationally.
