Lecture: Prof. Mahua Mukherjee / Vocal: Pandit Amitava Mukherjee

The renowned artist and the exponent of Indian Classical dance, Dr. Mahua Mukherjee conducted Lecture cum Demonstration on Gaudiya Nritya under the topic INDIAN CULTURE: PAST & PRESENT organised by Indian Languages and Cultural Centre of Diamond Harbour Women’s University, West Bengal on 30 March 2024. Renowned dancers Dr. Soumya Bhowmick and Sayantika Majumdar assisted in conducting the demonstration.

 The various images including sketches, gestures, postures and illustrations on stone and terracotta sculptures of ancient temples from pre-historic period during 8th to the 12th century AD and during the Pala Sena period to the present were elaborately discussed in the Session.

Prof. Mahua Mukherjee, professor of the Department of Dance and former Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts of Rabindra Bharati University and her husband Pandit Amitava Mukherjee,  have been significantly contributed to popularise this ancient dance form Gaudiya Nritya in the country.

Dr. Mahua Mukherjee is the founder dance director of the institute, Gaudiya Nritya Bharati, Kolkata and there are 15 books in Bengali, 5 books in English and many articles on Gaudiya Nritya to her credit.
