Kerala’s Solar High-Speed Rail Vision: UDF Government Constitutes Expert Committee

In a decisive shift from the contentious SilverLine project, Kerala now turns its gaze toward a new horizon of sustainable mobility. The newly elected UDF government has chosen to advance the Rs 60,000‑crore solar‑powered high‑speed rail corridor proposed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), under the visionary guidance of Metro Man E. Sreedharan.

To ensure clarity and credibility, the state has constituted an Expert Committee tasked with examining the DMRC’s interim report. This panel—comprising Transport Secretary J. Vinayan, Dr. C. Veeramani from finance, and environmentalist Sreedhar Radhakrishnan—will evaluate the project’s technical feasibility, financial viability, ecological impact and socio‑economic benefits. Their recommendations, expected within three weeks, will shape the future of Kerala’s transport landscape.

Last week, Sreedharan submitted DMRC’s interim blueprint for a high‑speed rail corridor stretching from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur, promising a transformative link between the southern capital and the northern districts.

By winding up all steps related to the CPI(M)‑led SilverLine initiative, once fiercely opposed by the Congress, the government signals a fresh chapter—one that blends speed, sustainability and solar innovation.
