INTER-DISCIPLINARY PAINTING WORKSHOP

An inter-disciplinary painting workshop and exhibition, jointly organised by the Department of Painting and Department of Instrumental Music of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is on show at Ahivasi Art Gallery, Faculty of visual Arts, BHU, Varanasi.
Workshop is organized under the Institution of Eminence Scheme of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
Exhibitions of the artworks and discussions will be held on 18 June 2022
“Around 50 young artists will be painting, based on 10 different classical ragas of Indian Music namely Bilawal, Bhairav, Bhairavi, Hindol, Megh, Shree, Todi, Asawari, Basant and Malkauns. Though the tradition of painting based on classical music finds its roots in medieval period art practices, depicting the ragas in contemporary art style is an innovative idea that may open new vistas to inter-disciplinary research,” Prof. Rajesh Shah and Dr. Suresh Chandra Jangid, the coordinators of the Workshop elaborated the details of the project.
Sudipta Swarnaker, Shweta Vishwakarma, Akhil Yadav, Akashmita Roy, Gautam Dev and other students from the Faculty of Visual Arts, BHU are participating in the workshop.
This unique inter-disciplinary workshop will enrich their creativity by synchronising music and art in an innovative way.
Prof. H. L. Prajapati, Dean of Visual Arts and Prof. K. Shashi Kumar, Dean of Performing Arts inaugurated the Workshop.
Prof. S. Pranam Singh, Head of Painting department and Prof. Pravin Uddhav, Head of Instrumental Music and other senior faculty members were present at the function.
