Echoes of Tradition: Indian Classical Music Enchants Hammond Museum Audience at New York
On August 9, 2025, the Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden, New York, became a sanctuary of sound, hosting an immersive celebration of Indian classical music.
The afternoon began with a workshop led by Shehnai virtuoso Pandit Shailesh Bhagwat from India, offering insights into the nuances of this rare and evocative instrument.
As twilight approached, the concert unfolded with performances by maestros Pandit Pradip Chatterjee (Tabla) from Dubai, Rohan Prabhudesai (New York), and Pandit Shailesh Bhagwat (India) himself, alongside promising student artists Aratrika Dey (Vocals), Neil Khare (Tabla) from NJ, and Michael Harrist (Sarangi) from NY.
The night culminated in a mesmerizing Shehnai recital by Pandit Bhagwat, leaving the audience immersed in the rich legacy of Indian musical tradition.
Presented by Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden, supported by Calcutta Performing Arts Foundation and The New York Community Trust, the event bridged generations and geographies, echoing the timeless rhythms of India in a serene garden setting.
