Gaudiya Nritya: Echoes of Tradition in Bally
On 9 February 2026, Rabindra Bhaban in Bally became a stage of grace and heritage as Prof. Dr. Mahua Mukherjee presented a captivating lecture-demonstration on Gaudiya Nritya. Organized by Bally Utsav Samity, the event offered audiences a rare glimpse into the depth and elegance of this classical dance form from Bengal.
The Gaudiya Nritya performance was enriched by the soulful accompaniment of Pandit Amitava Mukherjee, whose presence added depth and resonance to the evening. Assisting in this artistic journey were dedicated students—Dr. Soumya Bhowmick, Dr. Paromita Banerjee, Premankita Roy and Samarpan Sengupta—each contributing to the seamless flow of the presentation.
The highlight of the evening unfolded through the graceful dancers Samarpan Sengupta and Premankita Roy, who performed Alaapchari, a composition rooted in Nritta. Their movements embodied precision and meditative rhythm, transforming the stage into a space where tradition and artistry converged.
Through her performance and insights, Prof. Mukherjee revealed Gaudiya Nritya as more than movement—it is rhythm shaped by devotion, a dialogue between body and spirit, and a living tradition that continues to inspire.
