Flowing Rhythm: A Classical Dance Tribute to the Guru-Shishya Tradition

On 31st August 2025, Gyan Manch in Kolkata will come alive with Flowing Rhythm—a heartfelt tribute by Dr. Keya Chanda to her revered gurus.

Celebrating the timeless bond of Guru-Shishya Parampara, this evening of classical dance will also mark the launch of Dr. Keya Chanda’s biography.

The programme will be streamed live on the Makhlashinjini Facebook page, inviting audiences near and far to witness this moving celebration of legacy and art.

Honouring Legacy: A Gathering of Eminent Guests

As part of the Flowing Rhythm tribute, a special felicitation ceremony will honour distinguished guests who have shaped and supported the cultural landscape.

Among them are Guru Bidushi Susmita Mishra and Ms. Manju Mishra, whose dedication to classical arts continues to inspire. The presence of Sri Debasish Kumar (MLA, Govt. of West Bengal) and Ashis Kumar Giri (Director, EZCC) adds grace and recognition to the occasion.

Esteemed artists and thinkers—Pandit Prosenjit Poddar, Kathak exponent Kajal Misra, CMA Chittranjan Chatterjee, and poet-physician Dr. Asit Baran Kar—will also be felicitated, weaving together a tapestry of tradition, artistry and heartfelt tribute.

Unveiling a Journey: The Story of Keya

The evening will also feature a poignant book launch session, celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Keya Chanda. Two compelling works will be introduced—“The Story of Keya – History & Mystery” by Dr. Baniprasad Sen, and “Ghungure Jarano Naam Keya” by Haimonti Roy. Through words and reflections, these books trace the artistic path, inner spirit and enduring impact of a dancer whose rhythm flows beyond the stage.

Rhythms in Motion: A Celebration Through Dance

The stage will come alive with a vibrant tapestry of classical dance, choreographed and performed by Dr. Keya Chanda and Tanmoyee Chakraborty, joined by a spirited ensemble of dancers. Audiences will witness evocative glimpses of Kathak, the monsoon-inspired Sawan Aai, a captivating Brass Plate performance, and the mythic storytelling of Gobardhan Leela. The evening will culminate in Dance Odyssey—a grand finale that beautifully weaves the essence of the guru-shishya tradition with the timeless grace of classical movement.
