Debjani Chatterjee’s Bharatanatyam — A Tribute at Kalai Chettinad

The Kalai Chettinad Art Festival, curated by the Lotus Palace at Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, from 3–6 April 2026, unfolded as a radiant celebration of Chettiar heritage, craftsmanship and culture. Amid temple tours, heritage walks and explorations of traditional crafts and cuisine, the festival offered a soulful passage into the timeless spirit of the region.

A stirring highlight was the Bharatanatyam performance by Natyashri Smt. Debjani Chatterjee, whose emotive artistry left audiences spellbound. Her dance became a living tapestry of history, knowledge, and devotion resonating deeply with the festival’s ethos.

Natya Shri Smt. Debjani Chatterjee, disciple of Padma Shri Guru Smt. Chitra Visweswaran, and guided since childhood by mentors Smt. Thankamani Kutty, Sri Kalamandalam Venkit, and Smt. Anusuya Banerjee, embodies the spirit of a devoted seeker of knowledge.

Her immense talent has graced major festivals in India and abroad, featured on Discovery Asia Channel, and enriched audiences through workshops, demonstrations and lectures at prestigious institutions worldwide. As Director and Artistic Head of Prabha Kalabhoomi, Kolkata, she continues to nurture tradition while inspiring new generations, carrying forward the luminous legacy of Bharatanatyam with elegance and devotion.

Insightful talks by Smt. Sujata Shankar, Smt. Sashikala Anant, and Dr. Pradeep Chakravarthy enriched the experience, guiding audiences through the layered stories of Chettinad. 

Together, the performances and narratives created a luminous celebration of tradition, artistry and cultural memory.
