Clay Whispers of Heritage: Terracotta Workshop by Padmashri V.K. Munusamy

The timeless charm of terracotta finds new life in the hands of Padmashri V.K. Munusamy, whose artistry bridges centuries of tradition and innovation.

Hailing from Villianur, his lineage of clay sculptors spans twenty‑two generations—each creation breathing the warmth of earth and spirit. From miniature forms to majestic village horses, his touch transforms humble clay into living stories of culture and devotion.

Padmashri V.K. Munusamy stands as one of India’s most revered terracotta artists, whose creations breathe life into the ancient dialogue between earth and imagination.

Honored with the Padma Shri in 2020, his artistry transcends generations, shaping clay into timeless symbols of devotion and grandeur. Among his many masterpieces, the world’s tallest terracotta horse, rising 17½ feet high at the American International School in Chennai, remains a testament to his vision and mastery.

Each sculpture he moulds carries the pulse of heritage—where tradition meets innovation, and the humble clay becomes a vessel of eternal artistry.

THIS WORKSHOP AT TASMAI, A CENTRE FOR ART & CULTURE, PUDUCHERRY INVITES PARTICIPANTS ON 23 MAY 2026 @ 4 P.M, TO EXPLORE THE PLAYFUL RHYTHM OF TERRACOTTA—ITS TEXTURE, PATIENCE AND POETRY. GUIDED BY A MASTER WHO HAS SHAPED THE ART’S CONTEMPORARY RELEVANCE, THE SESSION PROMISES NOT JUST TECHNIQUE BUT A SOULFUL ENCOUNTER WITH HERITAGE ITSELF.
