CANVAS TO CUISINE: A CELEBRATION OF ART AND FLAVOR IN PUDUCHERRY

The “Canvas to Cuisine: A Celebration of Art and Flavor” event is on show from 1 February 2025, to 28 February 2025, at Adisil Bay Restaurant Cum Art Gallery in Puducherry. 

This unique event, organized by renowned artists Dr. Gopal Jayaraman, Candappane L and Soucoumarane A, will feature paintings on display and for sale, blending the culinary experience with visual art. 

Dr. Gopal Jayaraman, an esteemed art educator, conservator, researcher and visual artist from Puducherry, has made a profound impact in the world of art. Under the mentorship of Dr. Sirpi Jayaraman at Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam, his talent flourished, earning recognition by the Lalit Kala Akademi and National Academy of Art. Joining Tutume McConnell College in Botswana as an art faculty member, he pursued his D.Litt Et Phil in Art History at UNISA, Pretoria, specializing in Practice-Based Research in Art and Literature. His research blends folk-cultural and anthropological insights, drawing parallels between South Indian and South African traditions. Dr. Gopal’s extensive portfolio includes solo exhibitions across South Africa, Asia and Europe, showcasing his expertise in conservation, photography, computer graphics, museology and art education.

Renowned artist Candappane L holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Lalit Kalakshetra, Coimbatore, and is researching at The TamilNadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University, Chennai. Recognized by the Lalit Kala Akademi as one of Puducherry’s National Artists, his works emphasize traditional performances, seamlessly blending imagination and observation. Aspiring to revive Therukoothu, Candappane has showcased his art in numerous exhibitions across India and abroad, earning prestigious accolades. 

Soucoumarane A, a luminary in the art world, has graced the National Exhibition of Art by Lalit Kala Akademi, showcasing his talent across India and abroad. With over 35 years of dedication, he has nurtured Puducherry’s artistic community, inspiring emerging talents. His psychologically and symbolically rich works reflect a deep connection to the human experience. Honored with the Kalaimamani Award, Soucoumarane’s legacy continues to shape and inspire the next generation of artists.

Located at 56, First Floor, Chetty Street, Heritage Town, Puducherry, the restaurant will be open to the public from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM, with special hours for artists from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
