Famous artist and Production Designer (Art Director, Films), Ashokan Cheruvathur has done many site-specific murals and paintings for temples, churches, many public spaces and institutions in Kerala. 

Ashokan Cheruvathur studied National Diploma in Mural Painting (Five years), Gurukula System approved by Govt. of Kerala.

He also studied 3 years Drawing & Painting Diploma in Fine arts (Kerala Govt. Technical Education), Care of Painting Conservation Training course (Govt. of India), Ministry of Tourism and Culture, National Museum New Delhi.

He has conducted many shows  and attended various camps including National painting exhibition IGRMS Bhopal, Mural painting artist state camp KERALEEYAM Kerala kalamandalam, National seminar of Indian art, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Thrissur, International Mural Camp Kottayam , Heritage Wall Relief Camp, Thrissur . He has repainted murals as part of renovation and restoration work at various temples including Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Trivandrum in 2002 (conservation).

Kerala murals, the frescoes depicting mythological stories in ancient temples and palaces mostly are in dilapidated state or in danger of extinction.  But many artists have been trying to revive the age-old tradition of mural art in Kerala.
