A GRAND CELEBRATION OF DANCE, DEVOTION AND INDIA’S CULTURAL HERITAGE

Agomoni Nritya Utsav 2026 Concludes in Siliguri: A Graceful Welcome to Maa Durga

Dance, devotion and music came together as the two-day Agomoni Nritya Utsav 2026, organised by Nritya Mallika Dance Academy, concluded successfully in Siliguri, welcoming Maa Durga in the most graceful way.

The festival opened on 7 October at Dinabandhu Mancha, Siliguri. Among the distinguished guests were SNA Awardee Guru Dr. Shobha Koser of Chandigarh, Hon’ble MLA Dr. Shankar Ghosh, Vidushi Dr. Samita Koser, Shri Sajal Koser, Dr. Upendra Sharma and Vidushi Sangita Chaki.

The most touching moment of the evening was the special felicitation of Guruma Dr. Shobha Koser. The students and artists of Nritya Mallika Dance Academy offered their love, respect and gratitude, filling the hall with warmth and devotion.

Nearly 250 students took the stage with classical dance, Agomoni, Devi Vandana, Mahishasura Mardini and other devotional pieces. The dance-drama Dashadike Durga won the audience over, portraying the power, grace and divine presence of Maa Durga.

The evening was enriched by renowned sitarist Shri Subrata De, who travelled from Delhi, with tabla accompaniment by Shri Subir Adhikari. Their soulful recital, blending beautifully with the dance, made the night unforgettable.

Day Two: A Vibrant Interregional Nritya Mahotsav

On 8 October, the festival moved to Rabindra Mancha, Shaktigarh, Siliguri, and grew into a vibrant interregional Nritya Mahotsav. Dancers and artists from across Eastern and North-Eastern India gathered to showcase the richness and diversity of their dance traditions.

More than 45 talented artists from Assam took part, joined by dancers from Alipurduar, Dinhata, Sikkim, Darjeeling and other regions. Around 150 dancers shared one stage, presenting a colourful range of artistic expressions and cultural traditions. Across the two days, the festival featured 72 dance performances, a remarkable celebration of talent, dedication and cultural exchange.

The coming together of artists from so many regions reflected the festival’s larger vision of building cultural bridges, encouraging mutual respect and strengthening unity through the universal language of dance. Beyond its devotional significance, Agomoni Nritya Utsav also gave young performers a meaningful platform to gain exposure, build confidence and connect with the wider artistic community.

A Vision for Emerging Artists

Speaking on the successful conclusion of the festival, Smt. Rimpi Saha Banik, Founder Director of Nritya Mallika Dance Academy, congratulated all the participating dancers, teachers and supporters. She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the artists who travelled from different places to perform on a common stage.

Sharing her vision, she said, “The more opportunities and platforms we provide to dancers, the more they can develop their talents, enhance their skills and gain the confidence to move forward in their artistic journeys.”

She stressed that encouraging young dancers, recognising their abilities and giving them meaningful performance opportunities are essential to nurturing the next generation of artists. With this aim, the academy has organised cultural programmes and dance events throughout the year, bringing artists from different regions together to promote artistic excellence, cultural exchange and harmony.

On behalf of the academy, Vidushi Smt. Rimpi Saha Banik thanked Guruma, the distinguished guests, participating artists, students, parents, teachers, supporters, organisers and audiences whose cooperation and enthusiasm made the festival a success.
