New Delhi Readies for the World’s Grand Gathering
As dusk settles over Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi puts on its finest face — the 18th BRICS Summit begins tomorrow, drawing together eleven nations shaping the Global South’s future: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Under India’s 2026 Chairship theme — “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” — the capital welcomes a constellation of leaders: Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian alongside the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan and Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung are the other Heads of State who will attend the Summit. UN Secretary-General António Guterres and WHO’s Dr. Tedros add a global institutional voice to the table.
Ahead of the formal proceedings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet President Vladimir Putin for bilateral talks — the first of many quiet diplomatic threads woven through the two-day event.
