Har Ghar Tiranga 2026: India Launches Landmark Surya Path Tiranga Digital Relay Ahead of Independence Day

Today marks the start of a fortnight of tricolour fervour, as the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign unfurls across the nation, running through August 17. Born in 2022 amid the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, what began as a call to hoist flags has blossomed into one of India’s most sweeping grassroots movements — a canvas where citizens of every region paint their pride in saffron, white and green.

This edition carries added weight, coinciding with the 150th year of “Vande Mataram,” India’s National Song. Flag and anthem will walk hand in hand this year, with mass renditions of the song echoing through towns and cities nationwide.

The commemorations also turn solemn on August 14, observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, honouring those who endured the anguish of Partition through silent marches, exhibitions and documentary screenings across states and Union Territories.

Globally, over 200 Indian missions abroad will join the celebration. Stealing the spotlight, however, is the first-ever Surya Path Tiranga digital relay — an ingenious tribute tracing the sun’s own journey.

Fifty-four Indian missions, sequenced by sunrise across time zones, will pass the tricolour’s digital torch from Fiji, India’s easternmost outpost, on August 15, culminating at the Consulate General in San Francisco — a relay following light itself, fittingly, around the globe.

The tricolour’s journey –unites voices, memories and pride across the globe.
