Line-o-Prints: Achin Potua Marks 44 Years with a Tribute Show at Kolkata’s Academy of Fine Arts

Kolkata’s art calendar welcomes a poignant celebration this August as Achin Potua, the leading collective of painters, sculptors, and graphic print artists from West Bengal and Assam, marks its 44th anniversary with a new exhibition titled Line-o-Prints.

Founded in 1982, Achin Potua has spent over four decades championing the printmaking and drawing traditions of eastern India. This year’s show, running from 2 to 7 August 2026 at the West Gallery, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, arrives with layered significance.

It commemorates the 155th birth anniversary of Shilpaguru Abanindranath Tagore (7 August 1871 – 5 December 1951), the pioneering artist whose vision helped shape modern Indian art and gave rise to the Bengal School.

Yet the exhibition also carries a quieter, more personal weight. Line-o-Prints is dedicated in loving memory of Arunesh Choudhury (9 July 1964 – 3 June 2026), a beloved founder member of the group whose passing this year leaves the collective celebrating its milestone with both pride and grief.

Through an array of drawings and prints, the show promises to reflect the very ethos of its title — the disciplined, expressive power of the line, a medium that has defined Achin Potua’s identity since its inception.

Line-o-Prints offers not just an exhibition, but a moment of remembrance, homage and continuity — honouring a legendary master and a cherished friend in the same breath.
