The 16th India–Japan Annual Summit
At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi of Japan paid her first official visit to India from 1–3 July 2026, leading a high-level delegation of senior officials, CEOs, and industry leaders. The 16th Annual Summit became a defining moment in the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Both leaders reviewed progress since the last summit and reaffirmed that strengthening strategic cooperation would shape a resilient and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
Prime Minister Modi declared:
“India and Japan are among the biggest economies of the world. A free, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific is our shared priority.”
“We will jointly pave the way for peace, stability and progress for the entire region,” he added.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi echoed this alignment, stating:
“India and Japan are perfectly aligned. Strategic cooperation is the key to our future, and maritime security remains central to regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.” Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi underscoring the perfect alignment of vision between the two nations.
Economic Synergy
At the India–Japan Economic Forum, Indian and Japanese companies sealed 129 MoUs in technology, investment, and AI. Japan is poised to invest $1 trillion across Indian states, from the Northeast to Gujarat, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Haryana. Agreements in economic security, AI, defence, health, and energy marked the partnership as limitless and future-ready.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized—“When Japan’s expertise and investment combine with India’s speed and scale, the entire world benefits.”
Declaration of Trust
The Joint Declaration on Economic Security Cooperation reaffirmed mutual trust and shared values, aligning India’s MAHASAGAR initiative with Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision. Collaboration in semiconductors, critical minerals, ICT, clean energy and pharmaceuticals was pledged as pillars of a resilient future.
