India–Seychelles Partnership: Nurturing Oceans, Nature & Heritage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Seychelles illuminated the deepening ties between India and the Indian Ocean archipelago.

At the Botanical Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, his gentle engagement with the Aldabra giant tortoises symbolized a shared commitment to conservation and natural heritage.

The visit underscored cooperation in marine biodiversity protection, climate resilience, and sustainable tourism, with India supporting Seychelles in renewable energy, coastal surveillance, and capacity building. Environmental experts note that the Aldabra atolls host the world’s largest population of giant tortoises—over 100,000 individuals—making them a living emblem of resilience.

Together, India and Seychelles pledge deeper collaboration on blue economy initiatives, coral reef restoration, and combating illegal fishing, reaffirming India’s SAGAR vision — Security and Growth for All in the Region.
