Sharmistha Sinha’s journey is a rare confluence of intellectual pursuit and artistic devotion. With a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Kolkata and a Master’s in Sociology from Annamalai University, Chennai, she has cultivated a deep understanding of society and culture that enriches her creative vision.

Her parallel voyage in the world of Kathak reflects equal rigor and passion. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Kathak from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, and further refined her artistry through a Master’s in Kathak at Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh. This dual foundation—academic and artistic—has given her performances a rare depth, where rhythm and intellect dance together in harmony.

Sharmistha stands as both a scholar and a performer, embodying Kathak not merely as a dance form but as a living philosophy, where tradition, knowledge and creativity flow seamlessly into her art.

In 2017, Sharmistha Sinha’s artistry reached a historic moment when she performed with the troupe at Rashtrapati Bhavan in honor of the visiting Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Smt. Sheikh Hasina. The evening was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the late President Shri Pranab Mukherjee, among other dignitaries, marking her performance as one of profound national significance.

Her solo recitals have illuminated stages across India—at Akash Bangla, Kolkata; the Makhla Shinjini Festival, Kolkata (thrice); Nrityanjali Dance Festival, New Delhi (twice); Sailarani Mahotsav, Darjeeling; and the ISKCON Temple, Noida (twice). Each appearance has been a testament to her devotion and mastery of Kathak.

Beyond these, Sharmistha has brought her vibrant presence to renowned cultural venues such as Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra and India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, as well as Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

Sharmistha Sinha’s journey reflects not only the elegance of Kathak but also the honor of representing Indian classical dance on international stages. Her performance at Pattaya, Thailand, stands as a radiant testament to how tradition transcends boundaries, carrying the rhythm of India’s heritage into global arenas.
