Golden Tribute to Khayal Gaayaki — Gharanas of India

At Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, on 1st and 2nd May 2026, Pracheen Kala Kendra—with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India—presents “घरानों की स्वर्णिम रागांजलि” (Tribute to Golden Voices of Khayal Gayaki). This year-long, pan-India series celebrates the timeless grandeur of Indian Classical Arts, honoring legendary maestros whose voices shaped the soul of Khayal tradition.

The evening pays homage to four iconic luminaries: Ustad Chand Khan Sahib (Delhi Gharana), Padma Bhushan Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan Sahib (Rampur Sahaswan Gharana), Padma Bhushan Ustad Amir Khan Sahib (Indore Gharana), and Pandit  D.V. Paluskar (Gwalior Gharana). Each name evokes a lineage of devotion, artistry and innovation—threads woven into the rich tapestry of Hindustani music.

Gharana Shiromani Samman — Honoring Classical Lineages

In a momentous celebration of Indian Classical Music, the Gharana Shiromani Samman will be conferred under the gracious presence of Grammy Award Winner & Padma Bhushan Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, who kindly consented to serve as the Chief Guest. His presence illuminated the ceremony, underscoring the timeless resonance of gharana traditions and their enduring contribution to Hindustani music.

The honors recognized distinguished maestros across four illustrious lineages:

  • Delhi Gharana Shiromani Samman — Vidushi Krishna Bisht, SNA Awardee
  • Indore Gharana Shiromani Samman — Vidushi Kankana Banerjee, Gujarat SNA Awardee
  • Gwalior Gharana Shiromani Samman — Sangeet Acharya Pandit Vidya Dhar Vyas, SNA Awardee
  • Rampur Sahaswan Gharana Shiromani Samman — Ustad Mujahid Hussain Khan

Each awardee embodies the spirit of their gharana, carrying forward a legacy of devotion, artistry and innovation. Together, they form a radiant constellation of voices, ensuring that the golden heritage of Khayal Gaayaki continues to inspire generations.

Festival of Gharanas — A Golden Raga Tribute

The Festival Highlights at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi unfold on 1st and 2nd May 2026, offering audiences a radiant journey through the distinctive gharanas of Hindustani classical music.

On Day 1, the stage resonates with vocal recitals by Dr. Vivek Prajapati (Delhi Gharana) and Vidushi Kankana Banerjee (Indore Gharana), each weaving their lineage into soulful expression.

On Day 2, a special vocal jugalbandi by Ustad Mujahid Hussain Khan and Shahbaaz Hussain Khan Niazi (Rampur Sahaswan Gharana) creates a rare dialogue of voices, followed by a featured recital by Pandit Vidyadhar Vyas (Gwalior Gharana).

Accompanied by masters on tabla, harmonium, and sarangi, the performances promise an immersive classical experience.

Marking over seven decades of dedication, Pracheen Kala Kendra continues its legacy of nurturing Indian classical music. This festival bridges tradition with contemporary audiences, reviving the grandeur of gharanas while celebrating some of the finest voices of today.
