Unmesh 2026: Honoring Talent and Opening ‘Kalasutra’ Gallery at Banaras Hindu University
At Banaras Hindu University (BHU), the annual cultural and sports festival Unmesh 2026 concluded with a vibrant ceremony celebrating winners and unveiling new creative spaces.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, honored students for their achievements and inaugurated the Kalasutra Art Gallery alongside the launch of the Arambh exhibition. Featuring over 85 works by 65 students—spanning painting, photography, textiles and sculpture—the exhibition held from April 6 to 11, offering a rich tapestry of youthful imagination.
The city of learning–Banaras, witnessed a luminous moment as Unmesh 2026 drew to a close. Within the student union precincts, voices of celebration mingled with the quiet dignity of recognition, as winners of diverse competitions were honored for their brilliance and perseverance.
The inauguration of Kalasutra—an art studio and gallery—marked a new chapter in creative expression. Alongside it, the exhibition Arambh unfurled like a fresh dawn, presenting more than eighty-five works crafted by young hands, each canvas and sculpture echoing the pulse of imagination. The exhibition unfolded under the thoughtful coordination of Dr. Ashish Gupta, whose efforts shaped its seamless flow.
The gathering opened with a warm welcome by Prof. Lalit Mohan Aggarwal, setting a tone of grace and inclusivity.
Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, in his address, praised the vitality of student creativity and envisioned the campus as a living hub of artistic and intellectual pursuits. His words carried the essence of balance—between tradition and progress, between roots and aspirations.
The Guest of Honour, Sri Keshav Jalan, in his address, offered words of vision and encouragement, reminding the audience of the enduring values of resilience and rootedness.
Adding depth to the occasion, dignitaries including Prof. Ranjan Kumar Singh, Dean of Students, BHU and Prof. Uday P. Shahi, shared their reflections, underscoring the importance of clarity, perseverance and the nurturing of student creativity. Together, their voices created a harmonious chorus, celebrating both tradition and the promise of youthful imagination.
The festival, with nearly a thousand participants and ninety-three winners, became not just a celebration of talent but a promise of future workshops in yoga, sports and performing arts.
