NAYAB: An Afternoon with Dhrupad at Heritage Thakurdalan, Kolkata
Step into the timeless grandeur of Kolkata’s Heritage Thakurdalan at Khelat Ghosh Bhavan, Kolkata, where tradition and artistry converge in a rare cultural offering—“NAYAB: An Afternoon with Dhrupad.”
Organized by Sovabazar Seni Sangeet Sabha 1970 in collaboration with the Artist Nectar Council of Culture, this event celebrates the depth and diversity of India’s classical heritage on Sunday, 22nd February 2026, from 2:30 PM onwards.
The afternoon unfolds with the grace of Dr. Mahua Mukherjee’s Gaudiya Nritya, a dance form steeped in devotional expression and historical resonance. The meditative strains of the Rudraveena by Sri Bishoke Sil will follow, evoking the spiritual essence of ancient string traditions. The highlight of the gathering, Sri Supriyo Moitra’s Dhrupad vocal, accompanied by the resonant Pakhawaj of Sri Anjan Bandyopadhyay, promises to immerse audiences in the profound purity of India’s oldest surviving classical vocal style.
Honoring Bengal’s Cultural and Heritage Luminaries
In a spirit of reverence and celebration, distinguished artists, institutions, and visionaries are being felicitated for their enduring contributions to Bengal’s cultural, scientific, and heritage landscape.
From Pandit Amitabho Mukherjee’s Gaudiya Nritya Bharati and Bidushi Anusua Mukherjee’s Najrul Geeti, to the Dover Lane Music Conference’s 75-year legacy, each honor reflects a living tradition.
The recognition extends to guardians of heritage—Mr. G.M. Kapur of INTACH, Bengal Jewellery’s century-old legacy, and Nalin Ch. Das for conserving Bengal’s confectionery culture—alongside organizations like Dr. Banani Dey’s Boitanik, dignitaries Girish Chandra, Dey Nakur, Chandra Nundy and contributors from the scientific community such as Dr. Sanjib Acharya of Serum Group.
Together, they embody the spirit of preservation and innovation that defines Bengal’s cultural identity. This felicitation is not merely ceremonial; it is a tribute to the timeless artistry and dedication that continue to shape Bengal’s soul.
“NAYAB” is not just an afternoon of music and dance; it is a journey into the soul of tradition, where every note and gesture carries centuries of cultural memory.
