Morning Raga in Memory of Girija Devi Ji: A Soulful Tribute in Dehradun
On the serene December morning in Dehradun, the first light will rise to the sound of morning ragas. The SADAJ PANCHAM SOCIETY, in collaboration with Been There Doon That, presents a heartfelt Morning Raga Concert dedicated to the legendary Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi Ji — a voice that once carried the soul of Banaras across generations.
Held at WIC 111, Rajpur Road, Hathibarkala, Salawala, Dehradun, the event invites rasikas and seekers alike to immerse themselves in the gentle cadence of morning ragas, on 21 December 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
This gathering is not just a concert—it is a quiet offering of music, memory and reverence. A tribute to the timeless legacy of Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi Ji, whose voice once shaped the soul of Indian classical music.
Leading this homage is Smt. Rupan Sarkar Samanta, a name that breathes devotion and grace. A celebrated vocalist of the Banaras Gharana, she is also a teacher, visionary and cultural guide whose artistry bridges generations. For ten sacred years, she lived and learned in her Guru’s Banaras home, immersed in the spirit of the Guru–Shishya Parampara. Her voice now carries that legacy—through Khayal, Tappa, Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Chaiti—each note steeped in emotion, each phrase etched with brilliance.
The stage will also be graced by an ensemble of distinguished artists:
- Pandit Subrato Dey, weaving rhythm with soulful precision.
- PL Lokesh Anand, breathing life into melody through his shehnai.
- Uddalak Samanta, adding youthful depth to the performance.
- Pandit Amit Chatterjee, Pandit Durojy Bhawmik, and Zakir Dholpuri, each bringing their own mastery to this collective tribute.
Together, they will create a tapestry of sound that honors Girija Devi Ji’s legacy.
