Hari Darshan Sankhya’s Exquisite Paintings: Coorg’s Culture and Heritage

Renowned artist Hari Darshan Sankhya (born in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh) is celebrated for his ability to weave Indian heritage and nature into timeless works of art. Founder of the Sankhya Art Foundation in Banaras, he honed his craft at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, under the guidance of Professor S. Pranam Singh. Over the past decade, Sankhya has earned recognition across India and abroad, with exhibitions in leading galleries and museums, along with mural creations that adorn cultural spaces.

In his latest series, titled “Coorg’s Culture and Heritage,” Hari Darshan Sankhya dips his brush into the vibrant soil of Kodagu. Through the exquisite paintings, he captures the spirit of the land—the misty mornings of coffee plantations, the majestic strength of the Western Ghats, the rhythm of tribal life, the joy of folk festivals, and the sacred flow of rivers. Each canvas becomes a window into Coorg’s living traditions, where nature and culture breathe as one.

Hari Darshan Sankhya’s Paintings: Echoes of Coorg’s Faith and Festivity

In “Coorg Women Dancing in Traditional Costumes on the Occasion of the Harvest Festival”Hari Darshan Sankhya captures the vibrant spirit of the harvest festival. Women, dressed in red attire and adorned with gold ornaments, dance to the rhythm of cymbals within the sacred world of Coorg’s temples. His play of light and color reflects not only the joy of celebration but also the unity of faith that binds the community.

In “Sri Ganesh Temple, Virajpet”, the artist reveals how devotion and daily life flow together in rural India. The temple’s gopuram glows softly at dawn and dusk, while villagers in traditional dress move through their routines—an image where spirituality and life’s rhythm become inseparable.

Renowned for his deep sensitivity to nature, Hari Darshan Sankhya’s painting of Abbey Falls is awe-inspiring. The rush of water, the scent of soil, and the play of light all come alive, as his brush gives voice to the raw power of nature.

In works like “Elephants Bathing in the Waters”, “Bamboo Boats on Calm Rivers”, “The Golden Serenity of Namdroling Monastery”, and “Omkareshwar with the echoes of Gaddige Temple”, Sankhya paints vivid pictures of Coorg’s life—where heritage, faith, and nature flow together in harmony.

This series is part of a larger collection of 48 acrylic paintings, a monumental work that goes beyond visual beauty. It is a living document of Coorg’s soul, where tradition, faith and nature merge seamlessly.

In 2023, artist Hari Darshan Sankhya unveiled his solo exhibition “Glimpses of Coorg” at the Lalit Kala Vibhag Gallery, M.G.K.V.P., Varanasi. More than a showcase of beauty, this series stands as a heartfelt effort to preserve culture—where every canvas becomes a bridge between tradition and art.

Hari Darshan Sankhya’s art lets us feel heritage, silence and the timeless bond between humanity and nature.
