Esoteric Expressions: KS Kulkarni’s Timeless Art Comes Alive in New Delhi

Two of Delhi’s most cherished art spaces—Shridharani Gallery and Gallerie Ganesha—will host Esoteric Expressions, a rare exhibition showcasing the evocative works of renowned artist KS Kulkarni from 1980 to the mid-90s.

Known for his bold vision and universal themes, Kulkarni’s art transcends boundaries, blending classical roots with a modern spirit.

As he said, “Beyond the influence of Indian culture and its ethos, my horizons are universal. I am interested in the universalising of the human spirit.”

“My concepts are not regional, tribal or spiritual and material is the matrix of my creative intent” —a reflection of his deep engagement with the human condition beyond cultural confines.

From August 23rd to 31st, 2025 at Shridharani Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, and again from September 5th to October 7th, 2025 at Gallerie Ganesha, Greater Kailash-2, New Delhi, visitors can immerse themselves in a journey of form, texture and thought that continues to resonate across generations.

Esoteric Expressions: Honouring KS Kulkarni’s Timeless Vision in Art

Esoteric Expressions is a tribute to the extraordinary journey of KS Kulkarni—an artist, mentor, and visionary whose work continues to resonate across generations.

This solo exhibition revisits his creations from the 1980s to mid-1990s, revealing a seamless flow between intricate drawings, abstract forms, and figurative compositions.

Prof. KS Kulkarni, a founding force behind Triveni Kala Sangam and the Delhi Shilpi Chakra, was celebrated not only for his artistic brilliance but also for his deep commitment to teaching. His art drew from Indian traditions, yet carried a bold, contemporary spirit—where primal energy met refined technique, and nature’s rawness was shaped into visual poetry.

With a mind open to the world and a soul rooted in heritage, his canvases became expressions of a spiritual self that transcended boundaries.

This exhibition invites viewers to witness the vastness of his vision—where the local meets the universal, and every stroke tells a story of depth, discovery and devotion.

A Memory Etched in Colour and Form

Ms. Shobha Bhatia, gallerist and curator, recalls her first meeting with Prof. KS Kulkarni in the early 1960s, when she was a young art student at Triveni Kala Sangam.

Gallerist and curator Ms. Shobha Bhatia reminisces about her enduring connection with the artist:

“Prof. KS Kulkarni’s work, though unmistakably modern, carried deep influences from folk and tribal art. His ability to manipulate form, space, and color in an unparalleled manner resulted in the creation of masterpieces.”

Gallerie Ganesha: A Home for Art

For over three decades, Gallerie Ganesha has stood as a quiet yet powerful force in India’s art landscape—nurturing fresh voices and honouring forgotten masters. Born from Shobha Bhatia’s vision of an inclusive, welcoming space, the gallery became a haven where young artists found their footing and seasoned creators found renewed recognition.

It proudly helped shape the journeys of celebrated names like Paresh Maity, Neeraj Goswami, Jayasri Burman and many more. From its earliest days, Gallerie Ganesha offered not just walls for display, but warmth, guidance and trust—especially for first-time collectors navigating the world of art.

Rooted in soulful vision, it continues to unite artists and admirers in a vibrant dance of creativity.
