8TH EDITION OF ‘PRERONA’: A CELEBRATION OF INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE

Prerona 2025: Malashree’s Tribute to the Timeless Spirit of Indian Classical Dance

MALASHREE, a cherished institution that honours India’s cultural legacy, is delighted to announce the 8th edition of its signature dance festival—Prerona. This much-awaited evening of classical splendour will take place at Uttam Mancha, Kolkata, on 25 July 2025.

With every graceful movement and rhythmic beat, Prerona invites audiences into a world where tradition meets transcendence. The evening will shine a spotlight on India’s rich dance legacies, curated with care and passion by Malashree’s artistic community. As dancers from across genres gather to share stories through expression and form, the event promises an immersive journey into the soulful depths of classical art.

An Evening of Grace: Where Dance Meets Ancient Wisdom

The evening begins at 6 PM with a rare and illuminating lecture demonstration on the timeless art of Natya Shastra, led by the distinguished Sri Piyal Bhattacharya. Recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2023, Bhattacharya has devoted  decades to reviving the rich legacy of Bharata Muni through deep study and passionate practice.

This special session offers a glimpse into the sacred grammar of Indian theatre—where gesture, movement and expression are not mere techniques, but an invitation to trace the ancient roots of performance and rediscover the profound beauty of classical art.

Rooted in tradition yet alive with spirit, the festival brings together eminent dancers from across India:

From the delicate strength of Odissi by renowned Dr. Arpita Venkatesh and Kumari Vandita Venkatesh, to the vibrant Kathak of Sri Sourav Roy, the expressive storytelling of Kuchipudi by Smt Bobby Chakraborty, the lyrical grace of Manipuri presented by Anjika Dance, and the poised power of Bharatnatyam by Smt Priti Patel—every performance promises to be a window into India’s artistic heart.

The entire evening, guided by the artistic direction of Smt. Priti Patel and elegantly hosted by Sunita Chowdhurie, promises to be a heartfelt offering to dance lovers. Every step, every note will speak of devotion, artistry and the spirit of Prerona.

The spirit of Prerona will be elevated by the presence of distinguished guests whose lives are deeply woven into the tapestry of Indian classical arts.

HONOURING THE OCCASION ARE TAPATI CHOWDHURIE, PRITI PATEL, PIYAL BHATTACHARYA, LAILY BASU, RINA JANA AND ANITA MALLICK—LUMINARIES WHO HAVE NOT ONLY NURTURED TRADITION BUT CONTINUE TO INSPIRE WITH THEIR DEDICATION AND INSIGHT.
