Ahaban’s Annual Dance Programme 2025: Echoes of Devotion and Dance
On 11 June 2025, as the sacred Snana Yatra of Lord Jagannath filled the air with devotion, the Odissi Dance School “Ahban” brought its annual celebration to life at Rabindra Okakura Bhavan in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
The occasion, filled with tradition and grace, became a moving tribute to the spirit of dance.
Honoured guests—Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Guru Aloka Kanungo and Mrs. Annapurna Majhi, wife of the revered late Guru Muralidhar Majhi—lent the evening a deep sense of legacy and reverence.
Through rhythm, expression and timeless movement, Ahban celebrated both artistic excellence and cultural devotion in perfect harmony.
The program opened with enchanting dance sequences by Ahban’s budding performers, guided by the artistic vision of Smt. Sriparna Bose, moved in graceful harmony to the melodies of Rabindra Sangeet. Their earnest effort to perfect two intricate pieces brought waves of joy to the audience, especially with the heartfelt Odissi portrayal of “Hridoy Amar Nachere Ajike.”
Adding to the evening’s artistic richness was a spellbinding Indian classical slide guitar recital by Sri Subhadip Bose, a devoted disciple of Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya. He was brilliantly accompanied by young tabla talent Archishman Sinha Roy, student of Pandit Tanmay Bose. Together, their rendition of Raga Kirwani—with Taal-Madhya Laya Rupak, drut and jhala-trital—cast a musical spell that lingered long after the final note.
A Celebration of Young Talent and Musical Brilliance
The stage glowed with elegance as 32 students of Ahban mesmerized the audience with their mastery over the rich tapestry of Odissi dance. Guided with dedication by Director Sriparna Bose, they performed iconic pieces like Mangalacharan, Batu, Arbi Pallavi, Kirwani Pallavi and Sritakomola, choreographed by the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra.
