Undefined Equations — Nine Visions, One Canvas of Silence
Kannur’s art scene comes alive today as Commune – The Art Hub opens its doors to Undefined Equations, a group exhibition bringing together nine remarkable artists: Col. Sureshan, Hareendran Chalad, Joy Chacko, Maneesha Muruvassery, Robert Lopez, Sasikumar K, Surekha, Vishnu Vijayan and Vismaya Johny.
The exhibition was inaugurated this morning at 10 AM by Shri P. Vishnuraj, IAS, District Collector, Kannur, marking the beginning of a week-long celebration of artistic expression that runs from 25th to 30th September, 10 AM to 6 PM, at the 1st Floor, Mahathma Mandiram, Kannur, Kerala.
Dr. A.T. Mohanraj, Sudhakaran Purayath, Vatsan Koorma Kolleri, Gayathri, T. Bharathan, K.M. Sivakrishnan, V.K. Prabhakaran, Jolly M. Sudhan, Joy Chacko and Hareendran Chalad addressed the gathering.
Between sarcasm and stillness, nine brushes trace one equation: Hareendran Chalad’s cities crumble into sarcastic symbol, urbanisation’s wreckage hued in whatever tone the moment demands, timeless and unanchored. Joy Chacko wrestles philosophy and Earth’s biochemical dread into abstract colour, painting what cannot be named but only felt.
Vismaya Johny knots teenage memory into hair and lizard, confusion and survival entwined in feminine strength.Maneesha Muruvassery’s landscapes refuse mere scenery — nature, gender, shifting structures merging into lived, layered lines.
Col. Suresan V.P. reinvents Army-life moments spent among nature and people — a lonely traveller’s emotions rendered in poetic rhythm, colour and stroke unleashing “a new era of possibilities.
Robert Lopez: Renowned artist’s works represent the inner and outer layers of the Earth and the Universe we exist in. Surekha’s canvases carry depth born of a heart “full of music and movement,” Vishnu Vijayan roots his laterite land in vanishing lapwings and Theyyam myth.
Sasikumar K’s art breathes from the soil of memory and the pulse of nature—each line, each carved surface, a meditation on life’s quiet collisions. His drawings, acrylics, and laterite sculptures speak not of imitation but of transformation, where emotion and experience fuse into raw conceptual rhythm.
Together, the artists form a constellation of vision—each work a pulse of thought, emotion and earthbound memory. Their creations shimmer between irony and intimacy, abstraction and rhythm, revealing how art becomes both mirror and movement.
In Undefined Equations, these voices converge—an elegant symphony of perspectives.
