Twenty Years in Bloom: Shilpataru Celebrates Two Decades of Art in Pondicherry

Tonight, the heritage lanes of Puducherry turn into a gallery of memories. Shilpataru, the art collective whose name evokes a tree of creativity, celebrates 20 years (2006–2026) with a special group exhibition at Maison Perumal, opening this evening at 6:30 pm.

The inauguration will be led by Chief Guest Shri Vignesh Kannan, MLA, Raj Bhavan Constituency. 

The show brings together twenty-one artists, each with a distinct voice. Their names read like a map of contemporary practice: Alexraj.S, Antra Sinha, Anna Morozova, Danasegar.S, Gayathry.D, Giribala Tripathy, Gubendhiran.K, Keiko Mima, Kirti Chandak, Nele Martens, Padmanaban.T, Ramkumar.A, R. Rajkumar Sthabathy, Robi Ganguly, V. Santhi Siri, P. Saravanan, Tiroumale.D, Vengatesh.B and Vishwajyoti Mohrhoff, among others.

The featured artwork on the invitation draws the eye at once. A rider on a motorcycle sits within a luminous triangle, framed by dense, dreamlike cityscapes. Birds hover in the air and a lone dog stands close by, all rendered in rich monochrome. It feels like a journey through memory, movement and the rhythm of modern life.

With a tree for a symbol and two decades of roots behind it, Shilpataru reminds us that art grows slowly and generously, and shelters many.
