TRISSUR POORAM

Thrissur Pooram begins with traditional rituals amid the surging pandemic adhering to all Covid-19 protocols.
Tusker Ernakulam Sivakumar, holding the idol of Neythilakavu Bhagavathy opened the southern gate of ancient Sree Vadakkumnathan Temple marked the pooram celebrations on 22 April 2021. 
Only a very limited number of people were allowed to attend the ritual, ‘Pooram vilambaram’.
The state government had decided to organise the Pooram to be held symbolically without people’s participation.
The famous 36 hour colourful event will be reduced to a few hours rituals as done in last year.
However the fireworks, the most attractive spectacular event will be conducted as usual.
But people will not be allowed at the venue as per the guidelines issued by the government.

Pooram Fire Works and Celebrations called off

Following an accident in the wee hours of Saturday during the pooram celebrations, two persons were killed and many injured, the authorities called off the fireworks and celebrations.

The fireworks had already been loaded and were destroyed by exploding them as the removal of the same were highly risky.
