Shravan Dhital — Bridging Music, Devotion, and Scholarship

Renowned Hindustani Classical vocalist, composer, educator and research scholar Shravan Dhital, rooted in the illustrious Banaras Gharana, embodies a rare confluence of artistry and intellect.

“My work aims to bridge Indian Classical Music, devotional traditions, and academic scholarship through performance, composition and research, with a special emphasis on Tārtam Vāṇī and spiritual transmission through music,” affirms Dhital, whose vision resonates with seekers of both melody and meaning.

His core specializations span Hindustani Classical vocal performance, Tārtam Vāṇī studies, devotional and bhakti traditions, music composition and production, studio recording, rasa theory, aesthetics and ethnomusicology

Currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Music, under the supervision of renowned Dr. Bilambita Banisudha, at Sikkim University and he continues to weave together rigorous scholarship with living tradition.

Among his acclaimed contributions is a research publication in the International Journal of Social Science and Human Research (IJSSHR), titled “Esoteric Symbolism in Tārtam Vāṇī: An Interpretation of Prannath Ji’s Selected Song-Texts.” This work illuminates the intricate symbolic cosmologies of Mahāmati Prannāth Ji (1618–1694), whose compositions articulate metaphysical truths through layered metaphors and transcultural literary synthesis. Dhital’s study reveals how symbolism functions not merely as poetic ornamentation, but as a profound vehicle for transmitting spiritual knowledge—bridging Indic, Islamic and vernacular traditions into a universal framework of mystical thought.

Through his performances, compositions, and research, Shravan Dhital stands as a torchbearer of the Banaras Gharana, affirming that music is not only an aesthetic experience but also a spiritual transmission, a scholarly pursuit and a devotional offering. His journey exemplifies how Indian Classical Music continues to evolve—anchored in tradition yet expansive in vision.
