Shifting Revelations: Hasnain Soomar’s Photography Show Opens at Ganges Art Gallery, Kolkata

GANGES ART GALLERY PROUDLY PRESENTS SHIFTING REVELATIONS, A SOLO EXHIBITION BY VISUAL ARTIST HASNAIN SOOMAR. KNOWN FOR HIS MEDITATIVE APPROACH TO PHOTOGRAPHY, SOOMAR BLENDS NATURE, SACRED GEOMETRY AND METAPHYSICAL THEMES INTO A DEEPLY PERSONAL VISUAL LANGUAGE.

From November 3 to 29, 2025, Ganges Art Gallery in Kolkata hosts Shifting Revelations, a powerful photography exhibition by renowned Hasnain Soomar that invites viewers to see beyond the surface.

Inaugurated by Dr. Somdutt Prasad—renowned ophthalmologist and award-winning photographer—and graced by art critic Mr. Manasij Majumder, the show opened with warmth and insight.

This new body of work was born from a moment of profound loss and quiet hope at the start of 2025—an emotional turning point that sparked a journey of renewal. Through images shaped by soul-searching and elemental beauty, Shifting Revelations invites viewers into a space where pain transforms into insight, and geometry becomes a path to healing.

Shifting Revelations is a fitting name for Hasnain Soomar’s search for inner balance through art. In this series, he weaves together sacred geometry, Vedic mathematics, and ancient design—from mandalas to yantras—to show how form and rhythm reflect harmony within. Using the delicate 19th-century technique of salt printing, Soomar works with salt, gelatine, silver, and gold—each chosen for its deep meaning. Salt speaks of life, gelatine of strength, silver and gold of beauty and paradox. Together, they become symbols of creation rising above destruction, echoing the quiet power of renewal.

“Our external world is presently chaotic, in which fact and misinformation blur into confusion. As a counter force, we need to experience some light and an inner guidance.” –Hasnain Soomar

Hasnain Soomar is a visual artist from India whose work blends spirit, shape and material in poetic ways.

Trained at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, he explores the magic of analogue and alternative photography, weaving together geometry and quiet reflection.

His solo shows—The Meeting Point (2021–22) and Rising from the Dark (2023)—invited viewers into spaces of depth and transformation.

His work has been exhibited at Cultivate Art Global (Mumbai), Dhoomimal Art Gallery (New Delhi), Ganges Art Gallery (Kolkata), and internationally at Quarentena Galleria (Chile).

He continues to create between Delhi and Mumbai, shaping images that speak softly yet powerfully.
