SAREE WORKSHOP & INTERACTION
VAJRASARA
Sunday 2nd October 2022/ 5.00 – 6.00 PM
TASMAI / PONDICHERRY
Vajrasara is a movement artist who is interested in cross-media projects. Her interest in textiles and drapes is connected to ongoing research on costuming and its relation to movement . She is also deeply interested in heritage weaves.
The Saree Workshop & Interaction – the second in this series will explore various sari drapes ( there are 108 !) and will be led by movement artist Vajrasara.
In a one hour session participants will be shown how to wear 3-4 different drapes along with ways to contemporarise the current popular drapes. The session will include a short presentation on the history of various regional drapes with a focus on the present ‘nivi’ drape.
In a couple of generations the sari has shifted from being ‘daily wear’ for all classes of Indian women to almost disappearing from the wardrobes of urban Indians.
