Sandeep Mohanty: A Rising Voice of Hindustani Music
Born in 2002, Sandeep Mohanty has swiftly emerged as one of the most promising young Hindustani vocalists of his generation. Having completed his B.A. in 2023 and M.A in Hindustani Vocal from the University of Delhi in 2025, he now pursues Ph.D. in Music at the same institution, deepening his mastery while expanding his artistic horizons.
His musical journey began under the guidance of his respected father, Shri Saroj Kumar Mohanty, a Hindustani vocalist and composer, and was further refined under Shri Shiv Prasad Rao, where he inherited the rich traditions of the Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra gharanas. He has also trained under Pandit Sajan Mishra of the Banaras gharana, carrying forward the luminous legacy of Pandit Rajan–Sajan Mishra.
His journey is adorned with performances on some of India’s most prestigious stages. From Odisha Parb 2023 at JLN Stadium, Delhi, to the Shrinath Jagannath Festival in Udaipur, his voice has carried tradition into vibrant public celebrations. He has also represented Indian classical music at the 19th IUAESWAU World Anthropology Congress 2023 under G20 India at Ramjas College, Delhi—an event that underscored the cultural depth of his artistry.
Sandeep’s presence at landmark platforms such as the WAVES Summit 2025 at Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai—graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi—and the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa, reflects his growing stature in the national cultural landscape. His international reach was further marked by his performance at Bharat Parv, United Kingdom in December 2025, organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Beyond solo recitals at venues like NCUI Auditorium and Epicentre Apparel House, Gurugram, Sandeep has collaborated with eminent Kathak dancers including Deepak Maharaj, Abhimanyu Lal, and Gauri Diwakar at the Indraprasth Dance Festival 2025, Purana Quila, Delhi. He has also shared the stage with Padma Shri Madhvi Mudgal at Valaya Festival of Dance at Kamani Auditorium, and accompanied Vidushi Sangeeta Chatterjee in Kathak performances—bridging vocal music with the rhythm of dance.
In every note, Sandeep Mohanty embodies devotion and dynamism. His voice, steeped in tradition yet alive with youthful vigor, continues to resonate across India and beyond—marking him as a radiant torchbearer of Hindustani classical music’s future.
A scholar as much as a performer, Sandeep holds a Sangeet Visharad in Hindustani vocals with distinction, and serves as Vice-President of Alankaar, the Music Society of Hindu College. His dedication has been recognized with the prestigious Gurukul Scholarship by SPIC MACAY, the CCRT Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, and his status as an AIR-graded artist.
The Arranger’s Voice: Sandeep Mohanty
Beyond his brilliance as a vocalist, Sandeep Mohanty has carved a distinct identity as an arranger and director. His voice has graced many major projects composed by Pandit Ajay Prasanna, including one performed at the historic Mahakal Corridor inauguration in 2022.
He arranged and sang for a classical dance presentation at Surajkund Craft Mela 2024, composed by his father Shri Saroj Kumar Mohanty, and produced tracks for Rekha Mehra’s Kathak ensemble in their ambitious project Ramayan (2024).
As a composer, Sandeep has enriched the annual productions of leading college music societies: Alankaar of Hindu College (2022–23, 2023–24), Dhwani of Lady Shri Ram College (2025–26), Geetanjali of Miranda House (2026), Samanway of IIT Delhi (2026), and Saarang of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (2026).
