KAKATIYA RUDRESHWARA (RAMAPPA TEMPLE) IN TELANGANA
The 13th Century Kakatiya Rudreshwara ( Ramappa ) Temple in the village Palampet, Telangana was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the 44th Session of the World Heritage Committee held on 25 July 2021.
Built by Racherla Senapati Rudrayya, a general of Kakatiya King Ganapatideva in the 13th Century, the temple is known for its exquisite craftsmanship.
The foundation is built with the “sandbox technique”, flooring done with granite and the pillars are basalt.
The temple’s sculptures are of high artistic values that portrayed ancient Kakatiyan culture.
World Heritage sites are designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) having “outstanding universal value”.
