Punjab’s Folk Echoes — A Cultural Evening in Delhi

At the CD Deshmukh Auditorium, the national capital witnessed a radiant celebration of Punjab’s folk heritage. The evening unfolded as a tapestry of music, storytelling and shared memories, filling the space with warmth and collective nostalgia. Each performance evoked the vibrant cultural past of Punjab, fostering a profound sense of connection and community among the audience.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Meenakshi Lekhi emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting traditional art forms in contemporary times.

The soulful narration by Ruby D Singh wove stories that beautifully complemented the musical journey, while renowned Vibha Chawla’s vocals, steeped in the classical gayaki of the Patiala Gharana and inspired by her grandmother’s Ludhiana legacy, carried the audience into an intimate mehfil. Here, tales of Punjab—its mitti, rishtas, and virsa—flowed seamlessly into timeless melodies.

From Madhaniyan to celebratory folk geets, each song emerged from a story, and each story found its voice in music. Accompanied by Siraj’s instrumental depth, the performance evoked the tonal richness of Punjabi traditions. The festive spirit of Baisakhi—joy, harvest, and vibrant colours—was brought alive, immersing the audience in the cultural essence of Punjab.

The evening was supported by the Vishnu Lal Memorial Trust, with the ceremonial lamp lit by Trustee Mrs. Manju Vishnu Lal, alongside distinguished guests Ger Bau Shan and Raman Chadda

AS THE AUDIENCE DANCED AND SANG ALONG, THE EVENT TRANSFORMED INTO A JOYOUS, PARTICIPATORY CELEBRATION—AN AFFIRMATION OF PUNJAB’S LIVING HERITAGE.
