Prof. Ojesh Pratap Singh’s singing bears the mark of years of devoted practice, a journey that began at the tender age of five. His first guide was his music-loving father, who nurtured and inspired him to step into the world of melody—a step that soon became a lifelong stride towards excellence. From those early days, his voice grew into a vessel of discipline and artistry, carrying the essence of Hindustani music with grace and strength.
The path of learning led him to some of the finest masters of tradition. He trained under Ustad Ghulam Siraj Khan of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, absorbing the subtle nuances of its style. His quest for knowledge continued with Pandit Mahadev Govind Deshpande, a distinguished disciple of Pandit Vinayak Rao Patwardhan of the Gwalior Gharana. Each stage of training added layers of depth and refinement, shaping Ojesh Pratap Singh into a vocalist of rare sensitivity and power.
Believing that music is boundless in its content, Prof. Ojesh Pratap Singh found his greatest inspiration under the guidance of Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Padma Shri awardee and one of India’s finest exponents of the Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra Gharanas. As one of Kashalkar’s senior disciples, Ojesh Pratap Singh carries forward this rich legacy with humility and brilliance, weaving tradition and innovation into every note he sings. Prof. Ojesh Pratap Singh’s journey into the rich traditions of Hindustani music is marked by both artistic brilliance and academic excellence. His passion for learning led him to higher education, where he completed his post-graduation with distinction in Hindustani vocal music and went on to top the M.Phil. program at the University of Delhi. With dedication and depth, he further earned a Ph.D. through a Research Fellowship, focusing on the importance of literary content in Hindustani vocal compositions—a subject close to his heart.
Prof. Ojesh Pratap Singh, an ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio and empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, stands as a distinguished torchbearer of Hindustani classical music. His artistry has travelled beyond India, leaving audiences spellbound in England, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, China and Nepal. Whether performing on stage or guiding students in the classroom, his voice shines as a beacon of classical excellence, carrying forward the timeless legacy of raga and tradition.
Recognized early for his talent and commitment, Prof. Ojesh Pratap Singh was awarded the prestigious National Scholarship by the Government of India during 1990–92 to pursue his study of music. From the classroom to the concert stage, his journey embodies the rare blend of performer, teacher and researcher—an artist who continues to inspire with both his voice and his vision.
Prof. Ojesh Pratap Singh’s journey stands as a shining example of dedication, artistry, and scholarship in Hindustani classical music. Honoured with prestigious awards such as Sur Mani, Naad Shri, Gaan Ratna, Sangit Bhaskar, and Sur Srijan Shikhar Samman, his contributions have been widely recognized by leading cultural organizations. As a Professor of Hindustani vocal music at the Faculty of Music & Fine Arts, University of Delhi, he has nurtured countless students, blending tradition with modern insight.
