Prime Minister at Prambanan: A Sacred Dialogue of Cultures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his three‑nation tour, concluded his State Visit to Indonesia with a luminous moment at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta.

Accompanied by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, he was welcomed with the resonant notes of a gamelan ensemble and the grace of a classical Yogyakarta dance—echoes of Indonesia’s living heritage.

The leaders walked through the 9th‑century temple complex, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the grand Shiva shrine and admired the intricate carvings. Conservation efforts, supported through India‑Indonesia cooperation, stood as testimony to shared civilisational bonds. President Prabowo described Prambanan as a symbol of centuries‑old ties, while Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi called the visit “deeply spiritual and memorable,” thanking Indonesia for preserving this magnificent legacy.

Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelagic state with over 17,000 islands, is a treasure of biodiversity and culture. From Komodo National Park to the cosmological axis of Yogyakarta, from Bali’s beaches to Raja Ampat’s coral gardens, its tourism potential is vast and timeless. Each site is a living canvas of history, nature, and imagination.

This visit not only strengthened diplomatic ties but also illuminated Indonesia’s role as a cultural bridge—where heritage inspires, and tourism thrives.
