President U Min Aung Hlaing’s Visit — A Sacred and Strategic Journey
The President of Myanmar, U Min Aung Hlaing, arrived this morning on a five‑day official visit to India, accompanied by a high‑level delegation of Cabinet Ministers, senior officials and business leaders. This marks his first foreign visit since winning the controversial election of December 2025–January 2026, which excluded opposition parties.
His journey began with solemn prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment beneath the sacred Bodhi tree in 531 BC, and at the Sujata Temple, honoring the tribal woman Sujata whose offering of milk‑rice gave the Buddha strength to embrace the Middle Way. These sacred sites in Bodh Gaya embody the spiritual essence of Buddhism and symbolize the shared civilizational heritage between India and Myanmar.
Beyond the spiritual homage, President U Min Aung Hlaing will hold discussions with the Prime Minister and Indian leadership to strengthen cooperation under India’s Neighborhood First, Act East, and MAHASAGAR policies. His visit is expected to deepen the multi‑faceted partnership between the two nations, weaving together threads of spirituality, diplomacy, and strategic engagement.
