PRAJNA INTERNATIONAL AWARD-24: A GRAND CELEBRATION OF MUSIC AND TALENT

The Tapas Kumar Pal Academy of Music hosted the Prajna International Award-24 ceremony at Niranjan Sadan, Kolkata. The event commenced with a soulful orchestral rendition of Kabigurur’s “Alo Amar Alo” by 40 talented students of the academy. 

Esteemed personalities such as legendary Gaudiya dance artist Professor Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, internationally renowned tabla player Prof. Pandit Parimal Chakraborty, writer and poet Mrs. Tanushree Bhattacharya from America, and last year’s Prajna International Award winner Pandit Pratap Chakraborty graced the stage. 

The ceremony also featured a mesmerizing Guru Vandana performance in Gaudiya dance by Nabanita and Jenia Naskar.

Five distinguished individuals were honored with the prestigious ‘Prajna International Award-24,’ including tabla player and music book author Pandit Dr. Achyut Ram Bhandari from Kathmandu, Nepal, spiritual music guru Khodabox Fakir, renowned tabla player Pandit Kanai Lal Bhattacharya, violin player Vidushi Prof. Sulaya Banerjee, and famous guitarist Pandit Ashok Kumar Sengupta. 

It was a grand celebration of music and talent at the Prajna International Award-24 ceremony, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and artistic excellence of the participants.

A GRAND TRIBUTE TO PANDIT V.G. JOG SAHEB

On a momentous day, the postal stamp of the world-renowned violinist Padma Bhushan Pandit V.G. Jog Saheb was unveiled at a grand event. This was followed by the publication of “Recherché Composition of North Indian Violin,” a collection of compositions taught by him, written by Tapas Kumar Pal. The event also featured a spiritual music performance by Guru Khodabox Fakir, a mesmerizing rendition of Dasharathi Ray-er Pachali by Pandit Kanai Lal Bhattacharya, and a Nepali Madal performance by Pandit Dr. Achyut Ram Bhandari from Kathmandu, Nepal.

The students of the academy presented an orchestra of songs by legendary centenary music composers of Bengal, including timeless pieces by Rabindranath Tagore, Satyajit Ray, Salil Chowdhury, Robin Chatterjee and Nirmalendu Chowdhury.

Under the direction of Tapas Kumar Pal, the Mega Violin Orchestra showcased their skillful use of Bengal’s traditional musical instruments, the “Shrikhol” and “Bangla Dhol,” with Harekrishna Haldar on the Shrikhol and Subrata Natta on the Bangla Dhol. 

The orchestra mesmerized the audience with their rendition of popular tunes like “Banglar Mati Banglar Jal,” “Gramchhara Oi,” “Sankochher Bihbalata,” “Ketabar Vebchenu,” “Ghum Ghum Chand,” “Pa Ma Ga Re Sa,” “Feluda theme music,” “Hirak Rajar Deshe,” “Mozart’s 25th Symphony theme,” and “Sohag Chand Badni Dhavani.”
