Shatatantri Veena Recital in Delhi: Pandit Dishari Chakraborty’s Soulful Tribute to Senia Parampara
On 23rd November 2025, the esteemed music organization Sangeet Sarita, New Delhi presented a spellbinding evening of classical resonance—the Solo Shatatantri Veena Recital by renowned musician Pandit Dishari Chakraborty. The performance during the esteemed Pandit Jagdish Mohan Smriti Sangeet Samaroh 2025, held at Shiv Mandir, Sandesh Vihar, Pitampura, Delhi, began at 5:30 PM, immersing the audience in the timeless spirit of India’s ancient heritage.
The evening opened with a warm chorus by the young voices of Sangeet Sarita, guided by Guru Rajendra Kumar Sharma of the Akhil Bhartiya Gandharv Mahavidyalaya Mandal. The lamp was lit, guests were honoured, and soon Smt. Shashwathi Chavan’s gentle notes in Raga Yaman and Bhairavi Abhang set a serene mood.
Pandit Dishari, rooted in the Senia Maihar tradition yet self-taught on the rare Shatatantri Veena, unfolded his art with originality. His recital began with Raga Bageshri in the Senia Dhrupad-style Alaap–Jor–Jhala, joined by Pandit Manmohan Nayak on pakhawaj. The meditative alaap, the shimmering veena tones, and the rare Ulti Jhala held the hall in quiet wonder, as dignitaries and maestros including eminent dignitaries such as Pandit Vijay Shanker Mishra (renowned musicologist & chief guest) Dr. Tapaswini Pradhan (oncology surgeon & special guest) Ustad Amjad Khan, Pandit Sudhakar Chavan, listened in rapture.
At the request of the guests, Raga Gunawanti bloomed in Masitkhani style. The swar-vistar flowed like waves, tabla by Shri Saptak Sharma danced in joy, and the pakhawaj returned to weave a spirited dialogue. The Sawal-Jawab, the cascading jhalas, and the grand Tripalli Tihai brought the recital to a dazzling close, greeted by a standing ovation.
In the presence of the committee and honoured guests, chief guest Pandit Vijay Shanker Mishra felicitated Pandit Dishari Chakraborty—an artist who carved his own path, yet carried forward the timeless soul of tradition. With heartfelt gratitude, Pandit Chakraborty acknowledged the blessings of Pandit Dr. Devendr Kumar Verma and Sri Rajendra Kumar Sharma, along with the unwavering support of Sangeet Sarita’s distinguished members: Sri Vikas Sancheti (Vice President), Dr. Rishiraj Pathak (Secretary), Sri Varun Aggarwal (Treasurer), Sri Sumit Garg, Sri Kunal Solanki, Sri Chintan Kapoor and Sri Sachin.
