MASSIVE VICTORY FOR LEFT IN KERALA

The CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won massive victory in the local body elections in Kerala leaving a serious setback to the Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF).

 The LDF gained a clear majority in three of the six Corporations, 10 out of 14 district panchayats, 35 out of 86 Municipalities, 108 of the 152 blocks and 514 out of 941 grama panchayats in the state.

The LDF won Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kozhikode Corporations and could make an advantage in Kochi and Thrissur with the support of other independents. The UDF has a clear majority in Kannur Corporation.

The UDF could make a victory in the municipalities winning 45 out of 86.

 BJP managed to retain the Palakkad municipality and won Pandalam municipality along with 23 grama panchayats.

In the last local body elections in 2015, the LDF had won 549 gram panchayats, 90 block panchayats, 44 municipalities, 4 district panchayats and 4 corporations in the state.
