MANJISTHA UTSAV 2025: A TIMELESS TRIBUTE TO A LEGENDARY MAESTRO
On the evening of May 31, 2025, Gyan Manch will come alive with the spirit of tradition, devotion and artistic brilliance as Manjistha Utsav 2025 unfolds.
This annual event, designed and orchestrated by Shri Raja Dutta—founder and director of Manjistha Kala Kendra—is a heartfelt tribute to the late Guru Padmabhushan C.V. Chandrasekhar (22 May 1935 – 19 June 2024). A beacon of Bharatanatyam and a master of choreography, Guruji left behind a legacy that continues to inspire.
This year’s essence, NIVEDANAM, is a reverent homage, showcasing Guruji’s unparalleled choreographic masterpieces in Voice of Guruji.
Shri Raja Dutta, alongside his senior students of Manjistha, will offer their heartfelt tribute through mesmerizing performances.
To honor his artistry, selected disciples and eminent dancers from Kolkata including renowned artists Smt Chaity Ghosh, Shri Samrat Dutta, Dr. Mandakranta Roy and Shri Raja Dutta will join, ensuring that the maestro’s brilliance remains eternal.
C.V. Chandrasekhar: A Legacy of Grace and Excellence
C.V. Chandrasekhar was a luminary in Bharatanatyam, a gifted scholar, composer, and choreographer who left an indelible mark on Indian classical arts. His journey—from leading the Faculty of Performing Arts at M.S. University, Baroda, to mesmerizing audiences alongside his wife, Jaya Chandrasekhar—was one of passion and brilliance. Honored with prestigious awards like the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Kalidas Samman and Padma Bhushan, his dedication shaped generations of dancers. Even after his passing on June 19, 2024, his artistry continues to inspire.
