Making from the Rapture: A Journey Through Art and Emotion
ART HAS THE POWER TO EVOKE EMOTIONS, SPARK CONVERSATIONS, AND LEAVE LASTING IMPRESSIONS. MAKING FROM THE RAPTURE, A SOLO ART EXHIBITION BY ARTIST SHIBI BALAKRISHNAN, IS A BREATHTAKING EXPLORATION OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION AND PERSONAL VISION.
The Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery in Kozhikode recently hosted a captivating exhibition under the curation of Sudheesh Kottembram, showcasing the evocative works of renowned artist Shibi Balakrishnan. Held from April 29 to May 08, 2025, this carefully curated event transported visitors into a realm of artistic exploration and conceptual depth.
The grand inauguration took place on April 29th at 5:30 PM, with the esteemed presence of renowned visual artist Johns Mathew, marking the unveiling of Balakrishnan’s thought-provoking creations.
In the enigmatic world of Shibi Balakrishnan’s artistry, the boundaries between human subjectivity and post-human abstraction dissolve, giving rise to a symphony of fragmented forms that reconstruct rather than erase.
“Shibi Balakrishnan’s latest work contends with the notion of rapture – not as an end, but as a generative rupture. His drawings and paintings adopt a sculptural language, where forms emerge in a state of becoming: geometric yet asymmetrical, constructional yet unbounded. These shapes hover between the human and the post-human, suggesting worlds forged from fragmentation and renewal. If his earlier works probed human alienation in chaos, he pushes further, constructing afresh from the existing, imagining forms confronting the familiar. The rapture, then, is not destruction but a radical making,” says renowned Sudheesh Kottembram, author, critic and curator of the exhibition.
A highlight of this artistic endeavor is the panel discussion on “Art Practice Today,” scheduled for May 7th at 4 PM.
This engaging conversation will provide insights into contemporary art movements, artistic techniques, and the evolving landscape of creative expression.
Throughout the exhibition, attendees will be having the opportunity to engage with Shri. Sunil Ashokapuram, an executive member of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, gaining deeper insights into the artist’s journey and creative philosophy.
With the gallery open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM, art enthusiasts had ample time to immerse themselves in Balakrishnan’s works, which invited contemplation on form, transformation, and renewal.
The exhibition stood as a testament to artistic exploration, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
